Some of the most electrifying moments that take place during Food & Wine festivals happen during the music-fueled evening events. When the sun goes down and the amps fire up, so do our appetites– for drinks with friends over bites from some of the country’s most acclaimed chefs.
Saturday night’s signature event, Toast & Taste, will feature the soulful stylings of vocalist Tameca Jones, an Austin-based R&B artist known for creatively re-imagining songs by Prince, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Nirvana and more. When she’s not opening for acts like B.B. King, Gary Clark Jr., Smokey Robinson, and Jill Scott, she’s headlining shows and packing venues across town. Known as “the Tina Turner of jazz,” her wide (and seemingly effortless) vocal range will provide the soundscape, while the city skyline provides the backdrop, for Chicago’s premiere sip and stroll event.
Located in Grant Park, Toast & Taste will feature all-star Chicago favorites like interior Mexican authority Rick Bayless (Frontera Grill, Topolobampo, Xoco, Tortas Frontera), Italian master Tony Mantuano (Spiaggia, Bar Toma, River Roast, Terzo Piano), animated Master Chef Graham Elliot (Graham Elliot Bistro) culinary wunderkind Stephanie Izard (Girl & The Goat, The Little Goat) and third generation restaurateur Jimmy Bannos (Heaven on Seven, The Purple Pig, Juicy-O).
There will also be a roster of talent coming from all over the country. Representing L.A. is the influential Ludo Lefebvre (Petit Trois, Trois Med, Ludo Bird) and his business partners, dynamic chef duo Vinny Dotolo and Jon Shook from L.A. (Animal, Trois Mec, Petit Trois, Son of a Gun). Tim Love (Lonesome Dove, Woodshed Smokehouse, Love Shack, Queenie’s Steakhouse, White Elephant Saloon) will bring his Texas-sized personality (and likely some serious grilling and smoking equipment). New Orleans-centric Rich Tramonto (Seafood R’evolution, Restaurant R’evolution) will be bringing a taste of the bayou to the event, while the New York-based ‘Obe Wan Kenobi’ of Top Chef Masters Jonathan Waxman will prepare this season’s latest creations.
